Medication Administration
Mallatt Homecare Pharmacy fulfills all of your medication administration needs. We offer a variety of customized Medication Administration Records (MARs), allowing you to select the ones that will let your staff completely and accurately document medication administration. We provide printed side-effect information, annual on-site inspections, and psychotropic medication reviews so that you stay in complete compliance with state and federal regulations.
Mallatt Homecare Pharmacy provides five different types of packaging for safe and accurate medication administration. We offer single unit dosing or multi-dose packaging tailored to fit your needs. We provide insulin in pre-drawn syringes, along with the more popular insulin pens now available, and also offer a variety of diabetic testing supplies.
Mallatt Homecare Pharmacy is a complete source for all your disposable and durable supply needs. We utilize hundreds of suppliers and can handle everything from gloves and incontinence products, to wound care and nutritional supplements.
Mallatt Homecare Pharmacy will also repackage medication from the VA and many other mail order pharmacies. There is a fee for this service. Please contact Mary Olsen at (608) 310-9922 for more information.
Medication packaging options include:
Medication Boxes
At Mallatt Homecare Pharmacy we utilize numerous types of medication box packaging sytems. Medication boxes are mostly used by individuals in their own home when they are having a difficult time keeping their medications in order. More than 25% of hospital emergency room visits are due to medication non-compliance, while greater than 15% of nursing home admissions are because of medication mis-management. Medication boxes prepared and delivered by Mallatt Homecare Pharmacy dramatically reduce the chance of medication mishaps. We use a standard weekly medication box containing slots for morning, noon, evening, and bedtime dosages. Smaller boxes are also available, containing only morning and evening medications. Some boxes are easier to read than others---some easier to open than others...we will work with each patient to determine the best medication box method.
We also offer a medication box that is tamper evident. This is similar to a blister package but it has the look of a medication box. It is labeled with the days of the week and the times of the day. This type of box may be better for some patients as it travels better (pills won't fall out if the box is dropped) and prevents other people from getting into the box without breaking a seal. We use a unique labeling system that meets or exceeds all of the requirements for a prescription label. This system is integrated into our pharmacy software system and is found only at Mallatt Homecare Pharmacy.
Blister Packs
Blister packs (bubble packs) are the most commonly used packaging for solid oral medications. Medications may be packaged in any amounts up to a 31 day supply. We currently offer a 28, 30 or 31 day cycle fill. The 30 or 31 cycle fill will coincide with the calender month.
The 28 day cycle fill is very unique. We began using this format a few years ago at the request of our clients. The 28 day packaging allows homes the opportunity to have cycles delivered on the same day every four weeks. Administrators, nurses, or managers do not have to come in on a weekend or holiday to deal with the "switchout"---now they can do it during the week when staff is at full strength.
Multidose Compliance Packaging
Multidose Packaging is quite popular, with medications packed in a small plastic bag (about 3" by 2"). All medications designated for a particular time (i.e. 8 AM) are contained in the same bag and labeled according to pharmacy specifications. A patient will typically have four bags (morning, noon, evening, and bedtime). This compliance packaging system works well for ambulatory patients who work, go out to eat often, or who travel frequently. This system does not work well if there are frequent medication changes.
